Granite Strategic Investments “Granite” is an Irvine, California based company who is a subsidiary division under Granite Investment Group, who currently manages over $1.1B in real estate assets. Since 2010, “Granite” entered the space of acquiring, managing, and trading 1st lien distressed residential mortgages. Granite Strategic Investments (GSI), primary objective is to be a market leader in the lower-valued asset-class and provide solutions to both the banking sector, distressed homeowners, private investors, and local communities that have been affected by the financial downturn in the housing market. Our focus is centered on properties that are backed by market values less than $200,000. We feel this sector of the market is underserved, and we specialize in this niche asset-class.
President / Managing Director
Mr. Guinn is the President of Granite Strategic Investments, which is a subsidiary of Granite Investment Group, an Irvine, California-based company that manages over $1 billion in real estate assets. From 2011-15, Chaz was focused on the architecture and educational platform at Granite Loan Solutions, where he rose to become a partner in the company. Over the last five years he has managed and liquidated over of $400M in assets, and over 5,500 loans and properties. Chaz specializes in distressed whole loan trading, asset management, note investor education, and servicing. He has built his reputation on a track record of structuring, negotiating and executing some of the hardest trades possible in the low-value distressed market segment. Chaz has been instrumental in building strong client relationships, training them on the process, and activating a vast array of note investors and has been dedicated to infusing liquidity to this market segment that has been traditionally deprived of it. Combining his education in Finance and Economics with the practical management of supply and demand, Mr. Guinn is focused on acquisitions, asset management, and adding continuous improvements to the trade platform in an effort to create sustainable partnerships for both our buy-side and sell-side trade partners.
Mr. Guinn has experience in servicing and special servicing activities, including loss mitigation, foreclosure, bankruptcy and real estate owned. Mr. Guinn has a BA from Montana State University with an emphasis in Real Estate Finance and a minor in Business Administration.
Director – Production / Servicing
Mrs. Newcomer has over 20 years of experience in the residential real estate business. She started her career working for a Retail Lender in all aspects of the industry from Sales to Operations and eventually moved into Wholesale Lending. With the drastic changes in the market from late 2007 into 2008, she transitioned into the Distressed Real Estate Asset industry. Claudia worked for the second largest hedge fund in the nation with over $15 Billion in distressed assets on their books. There she used her experience in Mortgage Lending to specialize in Distressed Asset Management, Secondary Markets, Note Trading, Loss Mitigation and Debt Collection. In January 2011, she started as the Production Manager of Granite Loan Solutions where she was instrumental in building the company to buying and selling over 5,000 residential mortgages. This role included training, vendor management, sales, marketing and business development. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton.

Mr. Boerner has been involved in equity capital formation and investment, specializing in real estate for over forty years. In December of 1995, Mr. Boerner formed Granite Investment Group to capitalize on the opportunities in the Southern California commercial real estate marketplace, focusing on value-add apartment properties. His network of high net worth sophisticated real estate investors has allowed the company to react quickly to profitable situations with the combination of adequate financial strength, strong real estate acquisition and operational experience. Mr. Boerner also devotes much of his time outside of the office to various foundations and causes. Currently, he is serving on the Board of Directors for Lestonnac Clinic, The Guardian Scholar Program at Cal State University Fullerton, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Furnishing Hope, and the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Rickard is responsible for the development and implementation of the capital strategies for Granite and its affiliated entities. His responsibilities also include maintaining and growing the company’s equity capital partner relationships, which currently consist of predominately high net worth individuals, small to medium-sized family office groups and private equity firms both foreign and domestic. Mr. Rickard has been with the company since 2002, and has almost 30 years of extensive experience in real estate investment capital transactions. Prior to joining Granite Investment Group, Mr. Rickard served as President and Executive Director of one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate brokerage networks, which included licensed brokers in 40 cities. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Senior Care Centers, LLC, a senior housing operator headquartered in Dallas, Texas with annual revenues in excess of $900 million. Mr. Rickard is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and previously worked with Arthur Andersen & Company. He also maintains a FINRA Series 7 General Securities Representative License with Carolina Financial Securities, a broker-dealer, Member FINRA/ SIPC. Senior Advisor of GIG
Mr. Heller is the Senior Advisor of Granite Investment Group and has been with the company since 1996. Mr. Heller has had extensive experience in real estate income property transactions over the past thirty years. Mr. Heller oversees the day-to-day operations of Granite. Prior to joining Granite, Mr. Heller served as Vice President for Commercial Real Estate Owned Department for Home Savings of America, where he was responsible for directing the asset management activities for the commercial REO portfolio. He received his BA in Finance with an emphasis on Securities and Investments from California State University, Fullerton in 1982.
